WW232: April 25- Powerful Precues

Course Details

What exactly are precues and why use them? Precues are a communication system that lets our dogs know exactly what comes next. It may be clear to us, but to our dogs many exercises look the same. For example, the setup for heeling, moving stand, and signals all start with us standing in heel position. In the past I used only a verbal cue but it’s the weakest form of communication for dogs. In hindsight, my dogs were not sure what came next and this lack of clarity caused stress. I also charge the precues using tricks and offering. This creates drive and attention where dogs typically feel pressure and deflate. The result is a dog that is animated, engaged, knows exactly what’s coming next and drives into the exercise.
